Portrait Paintings

"A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art"
~Paul Cezanne
" My philosophy in portrait painting: I draw an
in-depth, character of the soul with the skill of drawing freehand; I do not
deliver a photographic mask of the sitter. Commercialism in
education has erased the knowledge and academic training in the skills of
artists who attempt to do portraitures. It is my philosophy that when painting a
realistic portrait painting, I believe in the time-honored techniques,
composition, and creativity that are required when working from life.
I use my education
along with the formal academic knowledge handed down from the traditions of the
masters like John Singer Sergeant, Diego Velazquez, Rembrandt van Rijn, and Thomas
Eakin, to create a life-like, convincing portrait of the human form.
In developing a
portrait it is important to know that when photographs are used, I like to use
a number from references, verses painting from a single photo."
